While delighting audiences from Shetland to Sarawak, Lisbon to Hong Kong, the band gathered tunes and invested them with their own musical gymnastics and hapless foolery.
The mainly traditional music is an infectious selection of paso dobles, polkas, jigs, reels and tangos. All three sing and the songs - mostly homemade - are comic and/or poignant
"Once they were merely hilarious. These days they are devastating."
The Herald (Glasgow)
"stole the humour prize... they were brilliant! Manic, lunic energy and staggering musicianship."
Living Tradition
"...originality must be seen to be properly believed"
The Banjo
"...probably the big hit of the festival."
The Shetland Times
"...traditional music, but with more than a hint of Victor Borge and Spike Jones."
Northern Echo
"...three very original minds that can entertain with real subtlety and humour."
Folk Roots
"...held the public in an iron grip."
Skagens Avis (Denmark)
"The mad, but unbelievably funny English trio, The Old Rope String Band, took everybody by storm on Saturday night. Their unique musical crazy comedy was appreciated by a packed-out hall. It was screamingly funny."
Jyllands Posten (Denmark)
"...went down a storm."
Morning Star
"I lost count of the number of times I overheard the comment 'I haven't laughed so much for ages' during the interval."
